O’s Notes: This was the first stereo recording at Prestige and it’s been adapted from the master tapes to SACD. The subject is the master composer and orchestrator, Gill Evans. The performance is first rate with an excellent selection of instrumentation for each piece. There is nice work on trumpet from Louis Mucci on “Ella Speed” and full-bodied brass throughout the session. When Paul Chambers walks his bass on “Nobody’s Heart” the band really swings. It is enjoyable listening almost 50 years later!
