O’s Notes: Ian plays sax and leads a quintet with guitarist Tim Wendel, Tim Brey (Rhodes), bassist Kurt Kotheimer and Matt Scarano on drums. They play eleven jazz-fusion songs composed by O’Beirne. The groove slips into more modern jazz on tunes like “Sapporo” though most is on the fusion side. Most importantly this is not overly smooth jazz and traditional jazz sax lovers will appreciate that.
