O’s Notes: Bassist Glen Ackerman has been away from the recording scene for a few years but he’s back with Glenious Alien Landscape. The band includes saxophonist Woody Witt, Jeff Sipe on drums, Alex Winkler on keys and guitarist Paul Chester. This is the primary core and other musicians morph in and out of the landscape. The music is not unapproachable or as far reaching as the title suggests rather a broad approach to sophisticated jazz-fusion. Both takes of “Funcraft” and “Bugs Don’t Judge” are favorites along with “…On The Way Home” and “The Mountain”, a relaxing tune. Ackerman is on his game with the funky fusion numbers that we’ve come to expect and enjoy. He also takes the lead from time to time strutting his prowess on numerous solos.
