O’s Notes: Left coast-based (Seattle specifically) guitarist Rik Wright leads Fundamental Forces, his quartet with James DeJoie (sax, cl, fl), Geoff Harper (b) and Greg Campbell (d, perc). They have been performing together for three albums now. This one is Green. The energy is high and the genre is jazz-fusion but with enough structure to appease a wide audience. Translation: no ear splitting distortion and solid melodies! “Alicia’s Waltz” is a heartfelt ballad written by DeJoie honoring his wife. It sits in the middle of the set, a suitable separation of heat and passion, the second half leaning towards the latter Including our favorite, “Overcast”. Green could mean money for this creative band!
