O’s Notes: Roberts (cello, g, vocals), Marc Ducret (g) and Jim Black (d, electronics) combine to play fourteen of Roberts’ compositions. They are assembled into two suites. The first section is titled “Bernie”, which lulls you into his zone. Once there you can begin an introspective journey that is quite intriguing. Hank paints a picture that places you in a vast grassy field dreaming, thinking of peaceful, passionate moments and letting nature control your destiny. Midway through you get to “In the 60’s” and “Trees” both pop-fusion numbers. The second suite, “Lenape” starts with a similar approach but then moves to more abstract pieces including the chants of “The Departing Hunter’s Song”. The final 3 songs restore peace and order culminating with “Pictures” a pop vocal. Green is an encapsulating journey.
