O’s Notes: Dr. Pascal Bokar is a student, professor, performing artist and leading advocate for jazz. He was born in Paris, raised in Senegal and educated in France and the USA including studies at Berklee, Cambridge and Univ. of San Francisco where he now teaches and directs the jazz band. Bokar plays guitar, sings, scats and leads a fine band for Guitar Balafonics, a collection of traditional tunes, standards and originals. Daria Niles joins Pascal signing on “Solitude” but this is primarily instrumental showcasing Bokar. The music touches blues, Latin, bebop and world jazz with notable contributions from Art Maxwell on sax and flute.
