O’s Notes: Mundell plays his guitar with exacting precision and he extracts a warm tone that is perfect for these dozen classic ballads. This 1956 session starts off with “Speak Low” which sets the stage for what follows. Each tune has good pace allowing the listener to embellish the notes. “You Don’t Know What Love Is” is a fine example. Al Klink (bass clarinet, flute) and Phil Bodner (oboe, English horn) add a classic touch to the melodies.
