O’s Notes: The son of the legendary contemporary jazz singer Michael Franks has his own vocal signature and style. Sean composes his own tunes and injects a bit of hip-hop into his game. His old-school R&B influence comes through on “Special” and “Living Without Your Love”. He’s best on the mid tempo romancers like the title track and “Lover Girl” where he sings straight from his heart on top of cool hooks. This is his road band, fresh off tour and they are tight. Franks does a good job on his cover of Marley’s “Could You Be Loved” a change of pace. No, he’s not a reincarnation of his dad but he’s got a groove that has legs. We’ll stay tuned.
