O’s Notes: This quartet is Andy Voelker (sax), Joel Yennior (tb), Edward Perez (b) and Chris Punis (d). The name of the band was one of New Orleans’ top jazz spots. But these guys emanate from Boston, having all studied music there. The music they play will get your head bobbin’ and that is the spirit that lives up to their name! Voelker wrote most of the tunes save a couple written by Yennior. These dozen tracks speak of different approaches and all are energetic and engaging. This is among the best new modern jazz we’ve heard in a while.
