O’s Notes: Kitty enjoys singing with her Heart & Soul and she doesn’t hold anything back. This live performance was recorded at the Broadway Studios in San Francisco during June 2003. She starts off with “Love Walked In” singing then scatting and even injecting a bit of humor. This sets the stage for what turns out to be a riveting performance. Those who appreciate traditional jazz vocals will hear Margolis bending the notes and fearlessly improvising and recall the work of legends like Vaughan, Betty Carter and O’Day. We use the greats as classifying references only because Kitty certainly has her own style and intricacies. The band is Jon Evans (b), Michael Bluestein (p) and Allison Miller (d). There are 11 tracks highlighted by “My Favorite Things”, “Summertime” and her take on the blues, “Your Mind Is On Vacation”.
