O’s Notes: Finnish trumpeter and composer Martti Vesala assembles a quintet with Petri Puolitaival (sax, fl), Joonas Haavisto (p), Juho Kivivuori (b) and Ville Pynssi (d) to play his music. Martin explodes on “Headfirst” with a blistering lead line. We also liked the flow on “A Blessing In Disguise” and the swinging grove of “Smoke”.“Helsinki Soundpost“gave us a great picture of the jazz scene in Finland. There is good talent expressing unique voices in jazz.
