O’s Notes: Heritage is great music with a jovial, festive bent. Richard Bona is an accomplished songwriter, bassist and vocalist. His vocals are not in English but they are very melodic and well integrated into the music! Bona is an entertainer who connects with his audience and band members. This is an enjoyable contemporary set with solid selections notably “Bilongo”, “Joko Joko”, “Kivu” and “Santa Clara Con Montuno”. Bona incorporates African beats into all of his works. If the beats on this CD don’t get your juices flowing, check you pulse! Richard stands out as a leader but has also been featured in collaborations with Pat Metheny, Mike Stern and Bobby McFerrin.
