O’s Notes: Guitarist Randy Johnston cooks up a nice set, a collection of ten cool cuts, four of them his own. The selections include cool jazz blues and a couple of solos. Johnson’s improvisation is delightfully balanced, not overstated. Vibraphonist Joe Locke shadows him on several tracks adding a different twist to the set. Grady Tate (d), Bruce Barth (p) and Nat Reeves (b) make up the strong rhythm section behind him. Hit & Run is a winner!
