O’s Notes: Sonny can hold the stage alone or with accompaniment. He does that well with his solo at the end of “In A Sentimental Mood”. There are ten songs, both originals and classics. All of them have generous amounts of improvisation by Rollins, a very good thing. “H.S.” and “Sweet Leilani” are among the best selections. Sonny is a wealth of musical history and expression. He is unguarded when he talks through his horn, as are many elderly wise men! These live sessions were captured from performances around the world from 1979 through 2012. Holding the Stage is the fourth volume of Road Shows.
