O’s Notes: Jack DeJohnette (d), John Scofield (g), John Medeski (keyboards) and Larry Grenadier (b) make up a formidable quartet called“Hudson. They open with the freaky, funky fusion of the title track. “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” is a bit spacey. They add vocals on “Dirty Ground” and they get primitive on “Great Spirit Peace Chant”. It’s a bit of a hodgepodge of songs but musicianship is first rate and the haunting creativity is groundbreaking for a strong debut.
