O’s Notes: This is a tribute to Dizzy by Mike Longo who was a long time friend and his pianist for many years. All of the front line brass have either played with or been influenced by Gillespie: Frank Wess (ts), Jimmy Owens (t), David Sanchez (ts), Cecil Bridgewater (t) and James Moody (ts). Paul West (b) and Ray Mosca (d) work with Mike on all tracks. There is a wealth of talent and it isn’t wasted. Longo wrote most of the songs for Dizzy. We liked the relaxed pace of this set especially “Brother K” and “I Miss You John”, just a couple of many highlights!
