O’s Notes: Balladeer and pianist Steve Ross sings the songs of Alan Jay Lerner, the man behind many musicals in the 1940s and 1950s. It is a live recording at the Hotel Algonquin in New York in late January 2009. The audience was full of people who recognized and appreciated the content. The focus is on some of the less frequently heard tunes. It is done simply with voice and piano. Steve includes some commentary that keeps the audience entertained along the way. There are twenty selections, mostly less than three minutes apiece. If you enjoy cabaret music, you could fine this to be intriguing.
