O’s Notes: Veteran jazz trumpeter Wallace Roney expands his space onto the contemporary side of the jazz ruler while retaining his bop roots. He opens with the fusion-based “Quadrant”, an eleven-minute plus original that moves in new directions. This is followed by a fresh arrangement of Brenda Russell’s “If Only For One Night”. Roney returns to a traditional bop groove on “Only With You”. We really enjoyed the mellow trumpet lead on “I Have A Dream” and the intoxicating groove on “I Love What We Make Together”. Wallace caps the performance with a solo effort on “FMS” displaying his chops with poise. It all comes together to make an engaging program worth repeated listening.
