O’s Notes: Illuminations is a fine collection of original music at varied tempos with a warm spirited carma featuring guitarist Steven Kirby. Kirby’s guitar work is excellent, at times reminding us of Pat Metheny. Aubrey Johnson provides great vocalizations mirroring guest saxophonist Bill Vint. Vint, Ed Lucie (b) and Kirby team up on the melodies for “May the 4ths Be With You”, a fine example of the shared melodies throughout the set. We finally get to hear the soft, whispery lyrics of Johnson on “Over The Rainbow”.
