O’s Notes: McCoy Tyner’s fingers seem to defy the effects of age! He tickles the ivory with dexterity that makes the music sing. On this CD, he also brings out the best in his band. They use “Angelina” as an early soloing exchange with Gary Bartz (as), Lewis Nash (d) and Terence Blanchard (t) all making waves. “New Orleans Stomp” is true to its title with that traditional New Orleans blues march feel and a great bass solo from Christian McBride. He also plays with great passion using his bow on “West Philly Tone Poem”. The rousing solo on “Soulstice” by Nash completes the circuit. You’ll find this to be an enjoyable set to listen to.
