O’s Notes: No, Freddie is not Nat (King Cole). Though they had similar vocal tone, Freddy’s a bit more raspy, their styles are different. Freddy sings a more spoken style and features more blues lyrics in a pleasant, sometimes humorous mode. He’s an entertainer who’s appreciation and popularity is growing late in his career as he steps out of the shadows of his legendary older brother. He sings some of Nat’s tunes, as always, and helps sustain the memories. But we challenge you to listen to Freddy as himself. His signature is cool.
