O’s Notes: Guitarist and composer Alex Goodman amplifies the importance of sight and sound in realizing the full sensory experience with Impressions In Red and Blue. Blue can be dark and sad but also bright and stimulating. Red is hot and intense. Alex performs with two distinct quartets on two discs including both rearranged classics and fresh originals that illustrate his thesis. He used different shades, pace and dynamics to show the endless possibilities that exist with color and sound. Ultimately there is some common ground along the purple edges, but we preferred the Red disc overall.
