O’s Notes: Portland-based pianist and composer Kerry Politzer leads a quintet on In A Heartbeat, her 7th album as a leader. She explores many moods from “Bad News” to the upbeat “Cycle”, and the sad “Goodbye” featuring trumpeter Thomas Barber. There are great horn harmonies from Barber and Joe Manis (sax) notably on “Lullaby For Messiaen”. This is an appreciable session of original music from Politzer.
