O’s Notes: Pianist Tony Foster leads a trio with bassist Russell Botten and Joe Poole on drums. While the programs are a mix of standards and originals, Foster’s arrangements are truly unique. He pays homage to both Ahmad Jamal and Oscar Peterson during the set while placing his stamp on the covers. We were definitely feeling Tony’s vibe on “Mr. J” and “How I Miss The Rain”. Perhaps the precipitation inspires all of these Vancouver musicians! It’s not just Foster making good music here as Botten and Poole shine too with all three making hay on John Clayton’s “Serious Grease”. This is yet another fine piece of music emanating from the Northwest. We’ll certainly have to pay a visit there again soon!
