O’s Notes: Altin Sencalar is a trombonist, performer and educator who has deployed his talents around the world. 2023 finds him In Good Standing leading a fine sextet with Diego Rivera (t-sax, s-sax), Patrick Cornelius (a-sax, fl), Art Hirahara (p), Boris Kozlov (b), and Rudy Royston (d). There’s a touch of jazz fusion on “Navy’s Mood “with Hirahara on the Rhodes. “Homenaje a Armando” is a vibrant Latin tune, and we were spellbound with the Brass harmonies on “Nutville”. Those are a few highlights in in a strong encounter.
