O’s Notes: Gerald is a well-recognized composer, producer and arranger of large ensembles. He combines the upbeat swinging electricity of west coast jazz with New York bebop. This session consists of ten new songs especially “Diminished Triangle” a 3-part suite. Among the many strong musicians on the set are Jon Faddis (t), Sean Jones (t), Renee Rosnes (p), Jeremy Pelt (t) and Ron Blake (sax) with a well-oiled rhythm section including Russell Malone (g), Peter Washington (b) and Lewis Nash (d). This big band has big sound, brilliant trumpet work, precision and oomph!
