O’s Notes: Saxophonist David Bixler has re-emerged onto the music scene full time after being consumed by his son’s health issues over the past decade. He wasn’t removed from music but had moved to the Midwest and performed less ‘in the moment‘, and understandably so.“In The Face of Chaos“is a live session recorded during a faculty recital at Bowling Green State University where David is director of Jazz Studies, though now he’s again living in Manhattan. Bixler performs with Rogerio Boccato (perc), Jon Cowherd (p) and Ike Sturm (b) on this collection of 6 introspective originals and ‘Give Me Jesus‘, a traditional spiritual. ‘Hope‘, ‘Deep Trust‘ and ‘nofomomofo‘ stand out amongst the heartfelt songs on the project, a fruitful re-emergence!
