O’s Notes: Tenor saxophonist Michael Blake makes music that can be hard to classify. It is not Avant Garde in the traditional sense but invokes a high level of free form and creativity blending many genres. We enjoyed the title track and some of the more accessible tunes like “Big Smile” and “Treat Her Right”. Blake handles most of the melodies with Dylan van der Schyff (drums), JP Carter (trumpet and electronics) and Chris Gestrin (keyboards) providing more than ample support. In the Grand Scheme of Things will please his loyal followers as well as attract some new listeners.
