Mack Avenue, 2012, CD
Jazz Ruler Type: Fusion
O’s Notes: This is the second Bromberg album released on July 17, 2012 and the third this year! While Brian is certainly capable, this and the Hendrix album were released in Japan in 2010 and 2007 respectively. The dedication to Jobim is in stark contrast to his Hendrix album. It is more laid back as one would expect with Brazilian sambas. The band is more diverse but Brian again handles most of the lead lines on bass. It lends towards a different approach with 5 timeless Jobim tunes mixed with 7 Bromberg originals that we’re inspired by the legendary Brazilian. That approach is a hands down winner vs. the typical all-covers approach to Jobim. Our favorite: “Cha Chika Chika Boom”.
