O’s Notes: We hadn’t heard the name, Danny Barrett, but when we popped in this CD, we certainly heard his rich baritone vocals. It is reminiscent of Johnny Hartman and Billy Eckstine, two of his influencers. He has his own signature, that of a swinging, crooner with true pitch and clear articulation. The songs are embellished further by strong performances the musicians including Dave Valentin (fl), Billy Drummond (d) and arranger Bill O’Connell (p). An excellent example of this union is on “Blue Gardenia”.
