O’s Notes: The Oatmeal Jazz Combo is an octet of talented musicians. They play ten songs, mostly originals composed by Andrew McGowan (p), Jonathan Saraga (t), Tristan Eggener (b) and Steven Carrington (reeds). They open with the warm, relaxing sway of Bossa Nova on “Look To The Sky” immediately capturing their audience. There’s a nice solo piano arrangement of “Feel Like Making Love”. We also enjoyed “Just Be’cuz” with a strong solo from McGowan, “Transfomers” and “Show Cat Valley”. Instant Oats is a relaxed set with lots of character.
