O’s Notes: Josh plays piano and percussion. Stan plays flute, clarinet, sax, percussion and sings. Both men are accomplished, well-educated musicians who thrive in creative environments. Instinct is a collection of ten mostly original songs that are true introspective expressions. “Break Out” is a prime example of their music, alternating between structured contemporary jazz and explosive, edgy improvisation. This contrasts with the sounds of nature on “Butter Pond” where Strickland turns his voice into an additional instrument as he does on the playful “Rhythm”. “Slowdance” invites the listener into their world, a challenging proposition that may find you enticed and wanting to stay!
