O’s Notes: Guitarist Rez Abbasi forms a quartet with Bill Ware (vibes), Stephan Crump (b) and Eric McPherson (d). They examine the electric jazz-fusion from the 1970s and recast it in an all-acoustic format. The composers are jazz-fusion all stars: Corea, Hancock, Zawinul, McLaughlin, Martino, Coryell, Cobham and Williams. The attack is more peaceful yet still dynamic. The compositions are inarguably amongst the best in jazz regardless of when they were created. The transformed arrangements are refreshed in this configuration particularly owed to the use of vibes and acoustic guitar making Intents and Purposes a fine effort!
