O’s Notes: This is a mellow guitar-based trio featuring eight newly arranged standards like “Bluesette”, “Poinciana” and “Polka Dots and Moonbeams” along with one original, the opener, “Eleanor’s Folly”. The accompanying musicians are John Lockwood (b) and Yoron Israel (d). This is not a unit that performs regularly together. They were selected for their capability. Stein encouraged spontaneity and opened the door for players to express themselves. The resulting Interplay gives new life to the standards. It’s a good session.
