O’s Notes: Several years ago, Japanese pianist Satoko Fujii was invited to perform in Mito, Japan by an enthusiastic club owner, Terihiko Ito. They needed to upgrade their house piano from an upright to a grand to facilitate Fujii’s eclectic style. Early in 2016 the first concert happened at Cortez with Satoko’s band Kaze. It inspired Ito to invite Fujii to record a solo concert.“Invisible Hand“is the resulting recording. It is a fascinating exercise in extracting a multitude of different sounds from inside, around and (the most common) using the keyboard! Fujii plays with deep emotion, improvising spontaneously to match the mood of the moment. It is an intriguing, dynamic set. It’s not for everyone but is a true artistic experience best appreciated live bringing much more than expected from one person and one instrument!
