O’s Notes: Drummer Peter Erskine has had a great deal of funky fusion bottled up inside of his jazz groove for a long time. His long time friend and collaborator Jack Fletcher suggested unleashing the passion under the guise of Dr. Um. And after 25 years, we finally get to hear the contemporary side of Erskine. John Beasley (keyboards), Janek Grizdala (b), Bob Sheppard (sax) and Jeff Parker (g) help him break the ice. “Lost Page” and “Okraphilia” are favorites. They strike a nice groove and now that the doctor is in, we look for more engagements!
