O’s Notes: Toni has an emotionally rich voice and she puts it though the paces on Is It Magic? Pianist Greg Gordon Smith shines on the title track and provides the glue throughout the session. Pablo Motta (b), Sheila Gonzalez (sax, fl) and Chris Wabich (d) round out the band. The program is a mix of originals and covers, both pop and jazz. We preferred the latter. Smith’s arrangements are fresh especially “Take Five”. Scheila and Toni’s exchange of the melody on “Storm’s A Comin'” is seamless. It a good CD.
