O’s Notes: Simon Moullier is one of the finest vibraphonists coming out of France. He’s got a very melodic sound that bodes well for jazz fans. Pianist Lex Korten, bassist Alexander Claffy, and drummer Jongkuk Kim round out the quartet on Isla, a fresh collection of mostly original compositions that are inspired by his homeland near the sea. Korten blends piano strokes with Moullier on the title track, and Claffy injects a fine bass solo on “Moon Mist”, two examples of the strong musicianship and teamwork on the album.
