O’s Notes: Master reeds-man Mark Ortwein takes us on a pleasant journey of jazz and blues on It Was Time. He combines styles and musicians to arrive at a very fine set. They open with the mysterious title track followed by some Latin jazz on “Pepperoni Grande Con Queso Mas”. Josh Kaufman sings a stirring, soulful arrangement of “I Can’t Make You Love Me”. John Fell (g), Kenny Rampton (t), and Carrington Clinton (d) join Ortwein for a bluesy take of “After You’ve Gone”, and a touch of fusion on “Lonnie’s Lament”.
