O’s Notes: Jazz in the Lobby Bar is a perfect title for this CD, a duet featuring bassist Jeff Brueske and singer/pianist Joann Funk. The Lobby Bar is at The Saint Paul Hotel in Minnesota. Jeff and Joann picked 13 of their favorites, some bluesy and all with a jazzy backdrop. Funk’s vocals are deep, can be seductive and suitable for the storylines. Nathan Norman (d), Pete Whitman (sax) and Richard Kriehn (violin, mandolin) have joined the duo on live sets and each of them makes a guest appearance on this CD. For Minneapolis and Saint Paul residents and visitors who have taken in their performance, this is a memorable reminder of that experience. For new listeners it is and introduction to an intimate, warm session, one you may want to catch live if you’re close by!
