O’s Notes: Jazz Kaleidoscope is a collection of fine jazz recorded on the audiophile label Reference Recordings. There are a dozen tracks from various artists. The Red Norvo Quintet opens swinging on “Rhee Waahnee”. Dick Hyman (p) adds a dose of ragtime on “I’m Goin’ To See My Ma” and then swings on “You’re Driving Me Crazy”. Mike Garson (p) shines on “Nothin’ To Do Blues”. We also enjoyed the lazy blues of Clark Terry’s “I Want A Little Girl” where he is both singing and playing trumpet. It is a very good collection of well-recorded jazz that is timeless.
