O’s Notes: Drummer Elvin Jones needs no introduction in the world of jazz. He’s played with all of the legends. The Jazz Machine is Elvin, Sonny Fortune (sax, fl), Ravi Coltrane (sax), Willie Pickens (p) and bassist Chip Jackson, a mix of seasoned veterans and young lions. The venue is Theaterhaus in Stuttgart, Germany during March 1991. Jones works up a healthy sweat with a driving performance from the opener “Is There A Jackson In The House?” the best of 3 tracks. We also liked Sonny’s work on flute during “Ray El”.
