O’s Notes: The late jazz trumpeter and composer Buck Clayton doesn’t appear on this 1976 recording, but his music speaks prominently! This is a classic jazz big band that really swings! The rhythm section is tight with bassist Richard Davis walking, pianist Hank Jones comping, while drummer Bobby Rosengarden keeps fine time. The brass is soulful, especially on “Kansas City Style”, a true showcase tune. Other highlights are “Jazz Party Tune”, and the cooking finale “Bandwagon”. Jam Session, Volume 3 is four songs and 46 minutes of pleasure!
