O’s Notes: Nelson Montana plays bass, guitar, drums, keyboards and sings. He also arranged and produced these eleven standards including a couple of originals. As the title suggests, these are atypical arrangements and a few are very good. Montana adds pianist Mark Berman, David Jensen (sax), Alex Norris (t) Mitchell Endick (sax) as guest artists and they do a lot for depth and variety. We preferred Nelson’s work on bass but he should be applauded for this Herculean effort.
