O’s Notes: Journey Moments“is the latest endeavor for bassist, composer and producer Ark Ovrutski with his quartet. They open with a bluesy take on “Second Line”. Myron Walden’s mellow sax tones are the melodic first chorus for most songs followed by Benito Gonzalez on piano. There’s a good sense of swing courtesy of Ark and drummer McClenty Hunter. The program is a split of 5 originals with 4 timeless classics. Among the best are “For Toddlers Only”, “Lester Left Town” and “Simone”.
