O’s Notes: This album opens with “I Remember Clifford” featuring Hood playing a rich, warm trumpet surrounded by a lush string orchestra. That theme continues over a dozen tracks. While Al is in the spotlight, Pianist Dave Hanson co-produced, arranged and also composed several of the songs. Al’s brother Steve makes a guest appearance singing “Here’s to Life” the lone vocal track. Rich. Chiaraluce (cl) does a fine job on “Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans?” He also shines on tenor sax during the session especially with Al on “Ceora”. Henson and Hood do a fine job of capturing the ‘Golden Age’ of instrumental writing and they do it in grand fashion.
