O’s Notes: Pianist Michael Jerry Stevens is one of North Carolina’s (Asheville) finest jazz artists. He partners with drummer, composer Art Lillard on Keepers Of The Flame featuring Lillard’s compositions along with several classics. The rest of the sextet is potent, with Don Aliquo (sax), Jamey Simmons (t), Rick Simerly (tb), and Jonathan Wires (b). Highlights are the calypso-infused “Purple Gazelle”, “With A Song In My Heart”, and the title track in a good performance.
