O’s Notes: The rich tones of Kenny’s guitar combined with the lush tenor sax of Coltrane are beautiful on “Why Was I Born”, a duet. There are four more songs with a bop groove adding Tommy Flanagan (p), Paul Chambers (b) and Jimmy Cobb (d). For John, it is the dawn of his post-Miles period. It’s 1958 and there is a lot to groove on here.
