O’s Notes: Bassist Christian McBride leads Inside Straight, an all-star band with Carl Allen (d), Steve Wilson (sax), Eric Scott Reed (p) and Warren Wolf, Jr. (vibes). They start the set with the cool blues of “Brother Mister” quickly establishing the tone of the set. They swing hard on “Rainbow Wheel” and romance us a bit on “Star beam” and “Where Are You?” Christian is on top of his game especially on “Used ‘Ta Could” and “Theme For Kareem”. McBride has quietly evolved into quite the (post-Ray Brown) jazz statesman on bass.
