O’s Notes: Ethiopian soul music was vibrant prior to and during the revolution. It was a way for true expressions to be heard during various periods of political unrest. The lyrics were presented on top of mild funky beats. Many met resistance but most, like Gssss persevered. Tlahoun was not only a strong performer but also of one of Ethiopia’s greatest singers know as The Voice. A nice slice of his music is captured here.
